Remarks by H.E. Mr. Mohamed Basri, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Kingdom of the Netherlands

On 30 July 2026, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in The Hague celebrated the 27th anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Throne, marking one of the Kingdom’s most important national occasions.

On this distinguished occasion, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Basri, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Mrs. Insaf Ghanemi graciously hosted a prestigious reception, warmly welcoming an eminent gathering of guests. Among those in attendance were members of the Dutch Government, Ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic community, international organisations, the Dutch business community, and members of the Moroccan community residing in the Netherlands.

Distinguished guests included H.E. Mr. Vusimuzi Madonsela, Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps; H.E. Mr. Emad Hanna, Ambassador of Egypt; H.E. Mr. Kalid Al-Kadi, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as H.E. Mrs. Sahar Ghanem, Ambassador of Yemen and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

The celebration honoured not only Morocco’s national achievements under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, but also the enduring friendship and steadily expanding partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

A large-screen presentation offered guests a compelling overview of Morocco’s remarkable transformation and ambitious vision for the future. The video highlighted the Kingdom’s rapid economic and industrial development, including the growth of its automotive industry, major water management projects, and the construction of what is set to become the largest football stadium in the world. These projects illustrated Morocco’s long-term strategic vision and its growing position on the global stage.

The evening also highlighted the strengthening diplomatic ties between Morocco and the Netherlands. On 5 December 2025, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. David van Weel, welcomed H.E. Mr. Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, to The Hague. During their meeting, both ministers agreed to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a Strategic Partnership.
This commitment was further reinforced by the Dutch Foreign Minister’s working visit to Morocco on 7 and 8 April 2026, at the invitation of his Moroccan counterpart, marking a new phase in the strategic partnership between the two Kingdoms.

The reception concluded with a generous dinner buffet that beautifully reflected Morocco’s renowned hospitality and rich culinary heritage. Guests were treated to an impressive selection of authentic Moroccan delicacies, showcasing the diversity, refinement, and abundance of one of the world’s most celebrated cuisines.
